Employment Requirements
To work as a Florida bail bondsman, a person must have a bail license and be registered with the state. To become a Florida bail bondsman, the applicant must:
- Be a United States citizen or permanent legal resident
- Be at least 18 years old
- Reside in the state of Florida
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have never been convicted or a felony
- Have never been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude, such as fraud
- Have never been convicted of any crime punishable by more than one year in prison
Education
Prior to a bondsman’s employment with Bail America you’ll need 120 hours of classroom study. These educational prerequisites include completing 120 hours of classroom instruction from a provider approved by the Florida Department of Insurance. These courses cover the necessary information on insurance and bonds, and you’ll need to pass with a grade of 80 percent or higher. After coursework, you must pass a state-administered exam to demonstrate the understanding of legal and financial aspects of the bail bond process.
Bondsman Skillset
In addition to these requirements, a successful bail bondsman working at Bail America must possess certain personal qualities and skills. Strong communication and negotiation skills are vital, as this job involves interacting with a variety of individuals, including clients, law enforcement and court personnel.
As a bail bondsman working for Bail America you must be available 24/7 to meet the demands of our clients. This often means being ready to work odd hours and being on call during holidays and weekends. A qualified bondsman must also be adept at managing risk, as you’ll be responsible for ensuring our clients appear in court. If a client fails to show up, you may be tasked with assisting in apprehending that defendant.
